Chelsea transfer news: Blues change Declan Rice stance, two set to leave

Chelsea are making plans for the January transfer window, and are set to offload unwanted players in a bid to raise funds.

The Blues went trigger happy in the summer 2020 window to improve the squad, with Frank Lampard forking out £250million on new recruits.

Declan Rice is their only remaining target, though they will have to wait before making a move for him.

The West Ham captain is valued at £73m, and they are unwilling to lower that asking price.

Danny Drinkwater finds a move

Chelsea outcast Danny Drinkwater has reportedly agreed to leave Stamford Bridge.

The midfielder hasn’t started a Premier League game for the Blues since March 2018, having fallen out of favour in west London.

He hit the headlines for all the wrong reasons after headbutting a 16-year-old Tottenham player during an under-23 match earlier this season, with his chances of first-team football dwindling to say the least.

His agent was said to be trying to agree a move to Germany, but it has now been reported that he is set for a loan move to Turkey.

Drinkwater is set to have jetted out to put pen to paper with Turkish side Kasimpasa.

Chelsea hatch Lucas Piazon plan

Brazilian forward Lucas Piazon has become the forgotten man at Chelsea after numerous loan moves.

He’s currently out at Portuguese side Rio Ave on loan, but that agreement is set to be scrapped.

The 26-year-old’s contract will expire at the end of the season, but Chelsea have the option to extend that for another year.

They are set to trigger that clause, but only to sell him on a permanent deal, claims Caught Offside.

Chelsea have chance for big spend

Chelsea may have spent £250m already on new signings – with the likes of Timo Werner, Kai Havertz and Hakim Ziyech all arriving in the last 12 months – they have the chance to fork out even more money this January.

The Blues announced a profit of £32m on New Year’s Eve, having sold Eden Hazard and Alvaro Morata in recent years combined with their transfer ban.

But according to Football.London, a UEFA loophole will allow the club to continue to splash the cash this winter if they wanted to.

Fresh Declan Rice stance

Chelsea are unlikely to move for Rice this January, and could opt to ditch their pursuit altogether if Lampard is dismissed.

That’s the opinion of David Ornstein of The Athletic, who reports that Chelsea’s desire to sign the England international comes primarily from Lampard.

He also claimed during a YouTube Q&A that there are some at Chelsea who hold doubts over the midfielder’s ability and whether they should be looking at him.

The value of any potential transfer has also reportedly caused doubts at Stamford Bridge.
