Manchester United duo Harry Maguire and Aaron Wan-Bissaka were blamed for the defeat to Manchester City after ‘costly’ mistakes.

The Red Devils were beaten in their fourth semi-final in a row after a 2-0 defeat to their local rivals on Wednesday night.

It follows their exits in last season’s FA Cup to Chelsea, Europa League to Sevilla and City in the Carabao Cup again.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer fielded a strong side against Pep Guardiola.

But former France defender Frank Leboeuf has taken issue with United’s backline.

On the other hand, City pair Ruben Dias and John Stones were commended, while Maguire was picked out for failing to deal with the first goal.

The England international saw the ball whizz past him from a free-kick but did not react as Stones got a knee on it to score.

“Football is made of mistakes and that’s what it is. You concede goals because you make mistakes,” Leboeuf told ESPN.

“The thing is with Manchester City this season they don’t make mistakes.

“Stones and Ruben Dias have been absolutely fantastic.

“It’s not the case for Manchester United where on the first goal, I want to know what Maguire has to say about that.

“He doesn’t react, the ball comes close to him and he doesn’t react.”

Wan-Bissaka was also blamed by Leboeuf

“The second goal, the first thing you know when you’re a defender is when you kick the ball away you never kick it in the middle of the park.”

Fernandinho scored a fine volley but was set up by a shoddy clearance from Wan-Bissaka from a corner and Leboeuf has taken aim at the full-back.

He added: “The second goal, the first thing you know when you’re a defender is when you kick the ball away you never kick it in the middle of the park.

“You kick it on the side. Wan-Bissaka did it straight to Fernandinho’s feet.

“Manchester City deserved to win. Manchester United suffered physically because they ran after the ball most of the time. That’s what it is. The best team won.

“It could have been otherwise if in the first half Manchester United scored it could have been a different story.”
